Documenting an Icon

Fondly known as the "Walkie-Talkie" 20 Fenchurch Street is an iconic landmark on the London skyline. It is a 38-storey premium office building, and home to London's highest public green space, café, bar and restaurant, the Sky Garden.

Designed by world renowned architect, Rafael Viñoly.

Upon completion it was recognised as one of the most sustainable buildings in the city, and awarded the BREEAM 2011 Excellent rating.

Client.

We were appointed by Canary Wharf Contractors to document 20 Fenchurch Street.

It was developed in a joint venture partnership between two of the UK’s leading property companies Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities.

What we did.

We worked closely with the teams and joined weekly site meetings to discuss build development that required time-lapse cameras to be relocated and identify key moments and milestones that should be filmed across the 3 year duration of the project.

Video Content.

We created a variety of films from the content captured. The team at Canary Wharf Contractors used them for team meetings and reporting, key stakeholder meetings and marketing. We also created a special film for the launch in the Sky Garden. A documentary capturing the complete construction of 20 Fenchurch Street, London.

Client Feedback

“Video House worked with us on 20 Fenchurch St ‘The Walkie Talkie’ building to document video content of key construction moments and time-lapse the build. The complex construction of the Sky Garden roof was a huge achievement for the team and it was great to have a record of that, crowned by the lifting in of the big trees right at the end.

The filming of the construction of 20 Fenchurch Street marked a new departure for us in capturing the dynamic of how an iconic building is put together.

Oran & Orlagh’s advice was invariably sound, work excellent and always went the extra mile we didn’t even know existed. Our construction archive is a better place.

Video is a vital component in the delivery of construction projects. Good for marketing, good for reporting and the team love it - it is a huge motivational tool and in my view an essential part of a modern construction projects toolkit.”
